Gloag charity not squeaky clean

A charity backed by Manston Airport site owner Ann Gloag is caught up in the current scandal surrounding sex abuse in the third sector.

Mercy Ships, the Scottish charity backed by the Stagecoach co-founder, has released a statement saying their organisation has had to deal with a case involving “inappropriate relationships” in the past.

They also stated:

“We work continuously to ensure the safety of all our crew and those we serve. All Mercy Ships volunteers agree to abide by a strict code of conduct that includes a child protection policy. In addition, Mercy Ships ensures that a child protection officer is on duty in every location for an added level of security. The organisation also monitors and supervises field operations consistently.”

The story was carried by Third Force News and The Times.
